Sarah Orne Jewett Society Launch and Inaugural Roundtable at ALA 2026

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are pleased to announce the successful formation of the Sarah Orne Jewett Society at the ALA conference in Chicago at the end of May. Our inaugural roundtable, "Jewett, Now and Then" was well-attended, chaired by Anna E. Beaudry from Baylor University, and featured six scholars (Rachael DeWitt from WashU; Sarah Ensor from University of Wisconsin – Madison; Melissa Homestead from University of Nebraska – Lincoln; June Howard from University of Michigan – Ann Arbor; Don James McLaughlin from University of Tulsa; and Cécile Roudeau from Université Paris Cité). We also shared some prepared remarks from Terry Heller and Sandra Zagarell. Thank you to the wonderful scholars who participated! This roundtable opened exciting vistas and much more is to come.
